......Many people are surprised when they realize that formatting the hard drive DOES NOT really wipe out the hard drive. Your data is still there and is accessible to most file recovery programs. We use DoD (U.S. Department of Defense) standard of data wiping (described in DoD 5220.22-M.) We run Wipedrive 7 times, however, we go a step further in using the Gutmann patterns of overwriting data developed by Peter Gutmann of the University of Auckland.

Cut-away view of the inside of a hard drive, the round disk are called platters and hold all your data.

Magnets, Degaussers and other x-ray or magnetic techniques do not work, even the large bulk eraser magnets are not effective.

Drilling, smashing, torching and other external damage can still leave parts of the platters in decent shape to retrieve data through forensics.

Expensive shredders are very effective. We recommend shredders if you don't have the time to wipe out the data by software means.
You may email us if you would like our list of government agencies & corporations in which we have Signed Agreements.

Microstar will wipe the data from your hard drives

Whether you're disposing of a hard drive or simply redeploying it as a new data or system drive, you need to wipe old data. This means more than just wipe the data off the hard disk drive in the traditional way. As you wipe data it can be sometimes be recovered on the hard disk drive. The hard disk drive should be scrubbed with a hard disk drive cleaning utility which will definitely wipe the data off your hard disk drive.

Using the operating system's "delete" command doesn't actually wipe data. It simply marks the space on the disk as "available" so the operating system can re-use it. This is fast, but it leaves all the data in place on the hard disk drive, easy to recover. A disk wipe data program, on the other hand, actually does wipe the data on the hard disk drive to make it unreadable.

Because some people use the basic level to wipe data, a hard disk drive only writes over the hard disk once, it is fast; however an expert cracker with the right software and enough patience may be able to recover at least some of the material on the disk even after you wipe the data on the hard disk drive. Multi-pass scrubbing makes it much less likely that anything readable will be left on the hard disk drive that you did wipe the data off of.

Basically it comes down to the level of security you need. If the information on the hard disk drive is extremely sensitive, such as customer information or credit card numbers, you should let us use our data wipe program which uses a multi-pass scrubbing technique.

Otherwise, if you are going to re-use the wiped hard disk drive on your own PC, then basic data wipe should be enough. If you are going to dispose of the hard disk drive by donation, resale or junking, a multi-pass data wipe is highly recommended or you can let us use our data wipe hard disk drive method on your drives.
